College Loans are loans that are the given to the student to cover expenses and provide for an affordable college education. Some loans are based on need and other credit worthiness. Some loans allow the parents to secure the loan, while others require the student receive the loan. The main difference in college loans and college scholarships is, a loan has to be paid back, whereas a scholarship does not. These type of loans are provided by the goverment and private lenders and offer low cost and flexible repayment terms which can help provide an affordable college education.
College Loans
Federal PLUS Loans which are sometimes called PLUS are loans that are secured by the parent and the parent is the one responsible for repaying the loan. This enables parents and family members with good credit histories to pay for the education expenses of each undergraduate child enrolled at least half time in an approved college or university. The disadvantage to a PLUS loan is repayment starts within 60 days of the final disbursement of the loan.
Federal Stafford student loans are some of the most affordable financial aid tools available to families and students, with interest rates lower than most other forms of financing and deferred payments until after graduation. Repayment of these loans begins six months after graduation or dropping below full time enrollment. These loans can also be consolidated after graduation making for an affordable college education.
The Alternative Student Loan or Private Student loans differ in many ways from traditional student loans. These loans are totally based upon your credit, not need; no collateral is required, the process to receive the funds is much faster.
